I’ve been a practicing estate and business succession attorney and wealth counselor/consultant for over 20 years. In that time, I’ve learned much from my clients, their advisors, and my colleagues that I try to apply to each unique situation. One thing that has been very clear to me is that different conversations need to happen than are happening for families to manage their wealth well. This blog is an attempt to extend some of those conversations to a broader group — and I’d like you to be a part of it.
We will touch on a variety of aspects surrounding wealth. While we will discuss technical and tax planning here and there, the bulk of our attention will be on the personal and practical aspects of a good plan — from your point of view, and not a lawyer’s point of view. This is critical if one truly wants to escape the “shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations” problem.
I’ll never claim to have all the answers, and I hope to learn from the perspective of readers like you. If you have a topic that you feel deserves some treatment, please let me know. If you have another resource that you feel is particularly helpful, I’d like to hear about it. Or, if you just want to say hello, that would be just fine, too. You are welcome to contact me at mshiller@markshiller.com.
Thanks for stopping by.
PS — It probably goes without saying given the above, but please note that there is no intention for this site or any of the postings or comments to be legal or financial advice. Please use your appropriate advisors accordingly or contact me if you need some help in finding good folks to work with.
